UAlg marks the opening of the Academic Year with the concert "A Tribute to the Accordion"

The University of Algarve ( UAlg ) is preparing to mark the opening of the 2025/26 Academic Year with a concert by the Algarve Orchestra , scheduled for September 20th, at 7 pm, in the Caixa Geral de Depósitos Grand Auditorium, Gambelas Campus.

Titled “A Tribute to the Accordion”, the concert is free, subject to the capacity of the room.

The program brings together one of the most acclaimed national soloists and the return of a much-missed conductor, striking a balance between tradition and innovation.

Accordionist João Barradas, internationally recognized for his versatility, performs Mozart's Concerto No. 23. Symphony No. 39 concludes the evening with intensity and classical brilliance.

There is also space for the world premiere of "O Diamante de Milene", by composer João Nascimento, inspired by the literary work of Lídia Jorge.

Before the concert, the public is invited to participate in "Antes do Toque", a moment of mediation with baritone Rui Baeta, at 6:30 pm, next to the auditorium entrance.

In a relaxed atmosphere, impressions and stories are shared that awaken the eye and ear for the concert that follows, in a clear invitation to listen in a different way.
